Black Watch Friends:
Regret to report the recent passing of Ralph Saunders in Glace Bay, NS.
Ralph served with our 1st Battalion in Germany (although the author of his obit may have confused WW2 and the Cold War), Gagetown and Cyprus (ā€˜Cā€™ Coy).

Ralph Havelock Saunders, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
He was the son of the late George and Margurite (Bryson) Saunders.
Ralph was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Black Watch. He was a member of the Canadian Military until retirement. During his working career, he was employed at Canada Packers, Sydney. His joys in life were hockey, horse racing, traveling the world and his little friend, Cuddles.
Ralph is survived by his brothers, Carl, Donnie and Fred and sisters, Evelyn, Frances, Beverly and Hazel.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Earl, Roy, Bobby and Billie and sisters, Dorothy, Minnie and Shirley.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. There will be no visitation by request. Interment will take place at a later date.
The family would like to acknowledge the phenomenal care he was provided by his best friend and caregiver, Gerry Smith of Glace Bay over the last eight years or so.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at or e-mail

With thanks to Harry Gordon and Earl Graves for the foregoing.
