79, New Minas, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Canard, Kings Co., he was a son of the late Oran and Annie (Zwicker) Goucher. He had been employed as a commissionaire. He served for a period of time as a marksman with the Black Watch in the Canadian Armed Forces and during this time, had the honour of standing guard for the Queen Mother during her visit to Ottawa. He was a member of Christ Anglican Church, Berwick. He was known as the horseshoe champion of the lake and he loved to fish. Freeman was also a well-known practical joker. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former June Reeves; daughter, Maria (Tony) VanWilgenburg, Cambridge; sons, Ronnie, at home; Gary (Wanda) Cambridge; grandchildren, Nancy (Paul), Mike (Karen), Jolene, Shelley (Tim), Anthony and Bill; great-grandchildren, Sam, Kayla, Alicia, Cole, Jeremy, Tristan, Taylor and Aaron; brother-in-law, Rupert Reeves, Cambridge; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Violet Lyman and Joyce, in infancy; brothers, Bert and Fred; grandsons, Mark and Peter VanWilgenburg. Cremation has taken place under the direction of White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation, by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, in White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Rev. Charles Bull officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Cambridge Cemetery. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
