George Alfred Slaunwhite
1940 - 2021

Age 80, of Hatchet Lake. It's with a broken heart I announce the passing of my dad. He passed peacefully with Mom and I by his side on April 12, 2021 in Hospice Halifax. He fought a hard battle after being diagnosed with Melanoma skin cancer in 2016. Dad was born in Halifax to Hattie (Nowe) and James Slaunwhite on June 16, 1940. He joined the Military when he was just 17 years old and was very proud of his 35 plus years of service in RCR and Black Watch. Dad always had a joke to tell and had many stories about his time overseas peace- keeping. Dad and Mom were happily married for over 50 years. They enjoyed many kitchen parties along the way with their friends in Terence Bay. Dad enjoyed being outdoors. He and Thane spent many hours hanging out in the yard landscaping both at home and the camp in Stewiacke. We all have many fond memories of spending weekends at the camp. Dad enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother-in-law "Uncle Blaine" and nephews. The greatest joy in Dad's life was his grandson Sawyer. Dad and Sawyer were best friends from the moment he was born. You might say he had "Pop" wrapped around his finger. Dad was the youngest of 12 children. He was predeceased by 10 of his siblings, and my brother, Thane. Dad leaves behind my mom, Judy; myself, Amanda (Chris); grandson, Sawyer and sister, Sarah Rogers. Dad, your tired eyes are now at rest. I love you more than words can say. I'm grateful for every second we spent together. Watch over us. You'll be in our hearts forever. Mom and I would like to thank Linda Taylor and Corrina Mitchell for the home care they provided to Dad. Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Halifax. In keeping with Dad's wishes, a gravesite service will be held in Star of the Sea Cemetery, Lower Prospect Road, Terence Bay on April 17th, at 2 p.m. officiated by Rev. Cheryl Rafuse. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Halifax who provided exceptional care to Dad in his final days: hospicehalifax.ca/ To place online condolences please visit: www.tjtracey.com
