1934 - 2020

It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Reginald "Reg" Earl Dwyer, of Maccan, on July 20, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Maccan on September 6, 1934 (was soon to be 86 years), he was a son of late John and Lillian (Collins) Dwyer. Reg spent his earlier years with the R.H.R. "Black Watch" Pte. Dwyer serving three years. He later worked for C.N. rail where he spent 37 years until his retirement. As a young man, Reg enjoyed playing hockey with the Maccan Bombers and the Amherst Super M All Stars. He was an avid sports fan always cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Yankees. He was a hard worker, always eager to harvest the blueberry crop in the summer each year. He also enjoyed each fall at his hunting camp with his son and grandsons. Reg was a proud Maccaner and enjoyed most of all sitting in front of the garage in the summer months visiting with his family and friends sharing stories and talking sports. He loved listening to music in the evening and looked forward to his great-grandchildren visiting "Grampie" where he would spoil them with treats. Reg is survived by his loving wife, Iona (Gogan) who he was happily married to for 61 years. He took great pride in her cooking and up until his passing she stayed by his side providing him with the best care. He is also survived by sons, David (Cynthia (Penny)), Maccan; Reggie (Lorraine), Windsor, Ont.; daughters, Marlene Dwyer (Tony), Sharon Harrison (James), Shelley Leblanc (Keith), Maccan; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, James Dwyer. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Logan, Ed, Albert, Ronald; and sisters, Inez Doucette, Margaret Marks, and Agnes St. Peters, sister in infancy, Audrey. Visitation will be held today, Thursday, July 23rd from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the funeral service following on Friday, July 24th at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bill Drysdale officiating, all held in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, 902-667-9906. Due to COVID-19 restrictions we kindly ask that you call to reserve your place for the funeral service only (902) 667-9906. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by accessing the follow link, distantlink.com/DLM69.html once prompted, please enter "Arbor2020". The family would like to extend a special thank you to Carla Blakney, Dr. Short and Eugene Kelly for your excellent care and compassion. If desired, donations can be made to COPD Lung Association and Colchester Regional Health Care Centre Palliative Care. Condolences and sharing of memories may be shared with the family via: www.campbellsamherst.ca or by visiting Campbell's Facebook pag
