Henry A. Hibberts
1939-2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of WO Henry A. Hibberts, CD (Retd), age 81 of Springhill, N.S. Henry passed away at home on Sunday, March 29, 2020, surrounded by his loving family after a struggle with cancer.
Born in Springhill on February 27, 1939 he was the eldest child of Theodore and Dolly (Johns) Hibberts.

Henry is survived by his wife of 61 years Marg, daughters Sandy Meekins (David), Bonnie Langille (Ken), Kathy Hibberts (Greg Greenaway), sons Greg (Holly) and Steve (Cheryl), beloved grandchildren Marcie and Lindsay Meekins, Kier, Keegan and Kyler Hibberts, sister Shirley Pettigrew, brother Ted, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers John, James and Albert.

The military played a huge part in Henry’s life. In 1956 he joined the Royal Highland Regiment of Canada (Black Watch). After completing his service in the regular armed forces, he spent 35 years with the Reserve Forces serving with the 1 NSH (N) B Company. Acting as curator of the Nova Scotia Highlanders Museum at the Lieutenant Colonel Daniel J. Murray Armoury in Springhill was another role he took pride in. Henry was also a noted collector, seller and trader of militaria internationally and mounted military and service medals for many.

His work years were also spent in the Springhill coal mines and with DND as the caretaker of the Springhill Armoury.
Both a handy man and gardener, Henry spent many enjoyable hours in his workshop and garden. He was a member of the Springhill Baptist Church, the Springhill AA Junction Group, The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #17, served on the Board of Directors at the GOVRC Workshop and was regional coordinator of Operation Christmas Child for many years.
Henry will be remembered by many for his wit, resourcefulness and generosity.

His family would like to extend their thanks to the many medical professionals who supported him throughout his illness with special thanks to Dr. Peter Blaikie, Max Read R.N., and VON Cumberland.

Arrangements have been entrusted to A.H. Brown Funeral Home (902-597-2361), 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS with a Celebration of Life service to be held at a later date.

Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation or your charity of choice.
Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Henry's online memorial at www.brownsfuneralhome.com or through the A.H. Brown Funeral Home Facebook Page.
