O'BRIEN, Keith 10 Years, 8 Months ago
From Geoff O'Brien regarding Keith O'Brien - 31 Aug 2013

It is with utter shock that I am sharing this. Sadly my father passed away in his sleep last night at Brampton Civic Hospital. He had a short battle with cancer. His health declined rapidly after Heather’s passing and he just wasn’t able to rebound back, although I can assure you that he fought right to the end.

2 weeks ago my family went to a wonderfully moving memorial service that they held in honour of my sister at the centre she used to go to. I remember my Father had a wonderful calm about him. I was thinking to myself “ok Dad, you just completed radiation treatment we’ve got this now, we’ve turned a corner” and now two weeks later he’s gone. I’m at a terrible loss of words. My sister’s death was sudden and then my father started his treatment right after my sister’s funeral. We haven’t had time to absorb this last 40 days. The world is so fast and heavy.

Six weeks ago I sat with him and he told me that all he wanted to do was get his daughter home. And he said it with such conviction. I thought he meant home from the hospital.
He’s with her now, and there’s something comforting in knowing my little sister is safe.

He was an accountant, teacher, lecturer, author, retail fraud examiner, umpire, referee, coach, entrepreneur, Husband, and Father. He served in the The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada, was a swing tenor in the Toronto Black Watch Association Pipes and Drums Band, and was a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

He was a man I could always count on.

You taught me so much Dad. I am so proud to be your son. I also know how proud you are of me. You were a really great man. Lamh Laidir An Uachdar (Strong Arm Upper-Most). I love you Dad.
