It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Milton John James Cameron, 76, of Westmount, passed away peacefully Oct. 2, 2012 in the palliative care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late William and Lucy (Anderson) Cameron.
John was a retired staff sergeant of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, serving for 20 years. Serving in the Canadian Forces for over 20 years in the Second Battalion of the Black Watch (R.H.R), the Cyprus Pats (PPCLI), military training in Gagetown, N.B., and travelling to Jamaica, Cyprus and Germany for duty. He relocated to the beautiful Island of Cape Breton in 1975, taking pride in building his home. His love of his family, long drives, fixing cars, repairs to the house, fishing, playing cards, his mastery of checkers, and winning at darts, brought him great joy. His laugh was contagious and his wit unmatched and remained that way to the end, and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara (MacDonald); his children, John (Vanessa), Shediac, N.B., Sonya (Bob), Calgary, Alta., Cynthia (Allan), Barrie, Ont., Neil (Cindy), Halifax, N.S. He is also survived by his special granddaughter, Charmayne, Glace Bay and grandsons, Tyler Steele, Dominion, Chandler, N.B. and Jarod, Ont. He is also survived by his sisters, Audrey Cameron, Ont., Doris MacLennan and Vera (Charles) Miller, Sydney; special nephews and nieces, Bobby MacLennan, Alan MacLennan, Lucy Wilkins, Margie Gray and Barbara Chiasson, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved brother, William ‘Cap’ Cameron.
We take great pride and joy, as our father has asked, in following his wishes, and by his request, there will be no visitation or funeral.
The family would like to express, at this time, our heartfelt appreciation for the continued support of family, friends, neighbours, Dr. M. Smith, nursing staff of VON, Dr. Dugas; nurse, Jackie Doucette; staff of palliative care and Veteran’s Affairs for overseeing his compassionate care.
Donations in Milton’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
