Regret to report the passing this week of Francie Marsh in Cape Breton.
Francie joined Second Battalion The Black Watch RHC in Camp Aldershot shortly after the unit returned from Korea. He subsequently served with the battalion in Camp Gagetown, West Germany and Cyprus before re-badging to 2RCR in 1970.
Francie was one of several “characters” in Second Battalion.

It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our brother. Francis Xavier Marsh. Francis passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Born March 31, 1936, Francie was the son of the late James and Edna (MacIntyre) Marsh of Reserve Mines.
Francie served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 37 years in various posts, including Peace Keeping duties, security with the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and was a proud member of the Black Watch Association and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 3, Glace Bay.
Francie "The Duke" loved all sports, especially golf and hockey. He was an avid Leafs fan and was a member of Lingan Golf Club where he loved to play with his brothers and buddies. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends where his smile lit up a room.
Francie will be sadly missed by his brothers, Larry, James, Basil, Adrian, Boniface, Billy, Danny, Greg, sisters; Edna Marie, Margaret, Miriam and Diane.
As well as his parents, Francie is predeceased by sisters; Ruth Ann, Mary, brothers; Gerald, Stanley and James & Joseph in infancy.
Francis was a resident, for the past nine years, at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay where he called home. The family would like to sincerely thank all the staff for their wonderful care and love given to Francis over the years. Also, thank you to Dr. James MacLean and the staff of the Glace Bay Hospital.
In keeping with Francis' wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of J.M. Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main Street, Glace Bay (902-849-7617). A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Donations in Francie's memory may be made to the parish cemetery or a charity of choice.
