Anniversary Message to the Regimental Family |
|
On the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada, it is my great honour to bid each and every serving and former member of the Regiment and the Regimental Family the happiest of birthday greetings.
Since the founding of the Regiment in 1862, Canada's Black Watch has proudly served in almost every major Canadian military engagement, from the battle of Paardeberg, where the Regiment suffered its first combat fatality, to Canada's trial by fire at Vimy Ridge, to Kandahar Province in Afghanistan. Throughout its history the Regiment has won 43 Battle Honours and, most impressively, members of the Regiment have been awarded six Victoria Crosses and over one thousand individual operational decorations. Indeed, we all have so much to be proud of as Canada's senior Highland regiment, and so much more to look forward to in the decades to come in continued service to our great country. I wish to congratulate and thank you all on this most auspicious occasion for your unwavering commitment and outstanding service to your Regiment and to Canada.
I wish you all the very best through the coming year and look forward to personally seeing most of you at one of our many events planned for this Anniversary year.

150th Anniversary Portrait |
|
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Black Watch’s service to Canada in 2012, military artist Katherine Taylor was commissioned to capture the spirit of our proud Regimental history. The centerpiece of this montage is the Canadian Black Watch Soldier, in full dress uniform. This soldier is meant to represent the embodiment of today’s Black Watch Soldier. He is supported by not only the Regimental Pipes and Drums but also the many who went before him as depicted in the images of major milestones in our history. Read more...

HonCol Invitation to Army Run |
|
We received the following from the Honorary Colonel:
As an eternal optimist, I have registered for the Half-Marathon in the Army Run, being held in Ottawa on September 18, 2011.
I think it would be a great occasion in the lead-up to our 150th Celebrations to make a bit of a Black Watch event of it. Therefore, please consider this as a personal invitation from the Honorary Colonel to all members of the Regiment, and the Regimental Family, to join him in the half-marathon of the Annual Army Run in Ottawa this September. I would be grateful if you could provide wide dissemination of this invitation to all members.
For information, the registration fee is $85 with slight additional charges for engraving of the dog-tag medals, taxes, etc.
By way of encouragement, the Hon Col will buy the beer after the race for all soldiers that beat his time! I am hoping to come in under two hours.

As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Black Watch, it’s fitting to show our pride in Canada’s premier highland unit in a distinctive, yet timely, way. The Regiment has commissioned one of Canada’s leading watch designers, Time is Ticking Inc., to issue a limited edition timepiece that properly reflects the remarkable heritage of a distinguished Canadian regiment.
Each watch is being offered for only CAD $69.00 (plus applicable taxes, shipping and handling) far below its actual retail value of approximately $180.00. All watches will be shipped in a distinctly monogrammed velveteen collector’s box.
Purchase a Black Watch (RHR) of Canada commemorative watch in lasting tribute to the 150th anniversary and beyond. Watches will make a unique Christmas gift.
