Anniversary Message to the Regimental Family Print E-mail

On the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada, it is my great honour to bid each and every serving and former member of the Regiment and the Regimental Family the happiest of birthday greetings.

Since the founding of the Regiment in 1862, Canada's Black Watch has proudly served in almost every major Canadian military engagement, from the battle of Paardeberg, where the Regiment suffered its first combat fatality, to Canada's trial by fire at Vimy Ridge, to Kandahar Province in Afghanistan. Throughout its history the Regiment has won 43 Battle Honours and, most impressively, members of the Regiment have been awarded six Victoria Crosses and over one thousand individual operational decorations. Indeed, we all have so much to be proud of as Canada's senior Highland regiment, and so much more to look forward to in the decades to come in continued service to our great country. I wish to congratulate and thank you all on this most auspicious occasion for your unwavering commitment and outstanding service to your Regiment and to Canada.

I wish you all the very best through the coming year and look forward to personally seeing most of you at one of our many events planned for this Anniversary year.

Col Dan O'Connor, CD
Honorary Colonel
