Regret to report the passing of Clarence CLOSE in Glace Bay on Christmas Day.

Believe Clarence served in Germany with 1st Canadian Highland Battalion and on return to Camp Aldershot in 1953 transferred to 2CHB/2RHC and went to Korea as a member of ‘C’ Company. On return from Korea he remained with 2RHC until he was released in 1958.

Description: Clarence Close, Glace BayClarence Close Glace Bay It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Clarence Close, age 91 of Glace Bay on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late James and Ida (Chadwick) Close of England. Clarence worked at many jobs during his lifetime, some of which included coal mining, masonry and the fishing industry. He also enjoyed wood working and caring for his backyard. But mostly, Clarence always said that the 10 years he spent in the Canadian Armed Forces (Black Watch Unit) during the Korean Conflict was the most fulfilling. He is survived by his five children, Karen Close, James (Michelle) Close, Debbie (Kevin) Gallant, Robert (Darlene) Close, Sandra (Close) Tugwood, nine grandchildren, Keith, David, Gordon, Robert, Christopher, Amanda, Jeffrey, Tyler and Brandon. Clarence will also be sadly missed by his great grandchildren, Ryan, April, Erin, Christopher, Alyssa, C.J., Olivia, Violet, Cordelia and one expected in January 2021 (Rayleen) and one great great granddaughter. Besides his parents, Clarence was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Alexandra (Campbell) Close. There will be no funeral services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Memorial donations in memory of Clarence may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
