September 6, 2008 L. Col (ret'd) Donald Fisher, CD passed away peacefully on the 69th anniversary of his enlistment in the Perth Regiment, Canadian Army. Born in Amulree near Stratford, Ontario on September 21, 1921, Donald was the son of the late John and Edna (Roegele) Fisher. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Amy Eileen (Grant). Donald is survived by his three daughters, Donna Clowater (Gerald), Deborah Fisher, Hilary Sullivan (Blair), three grandsons, Andrew Clowater (Eva), Christopher and Gregory Tubb, a great granddaughter and great grandson, Katherine and Grant Clowater. Don is also survived by his sisters Catherine, Grace and Christine, sisters-in-law, Christine and Shirley, and many nieces and nephews, Donald was predeceased by his parents, older brother, Major Forbes Fisher (killed in action in WWII), younger brothers George and Alec, and sister, Mary. Don enlisted in the Perth Regiment in 1939, served in Canada, the UK, Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After the war he remained in the army and served proudly with the Black Watch (RHR) of Canada in Korea and Europe as well as short periods in Cyprus and Trinidad. Don retired in 1971 as Regimental Adjutant of the Black Watch and served as the NB Army Cadet Instructor Liaison, retiring from there with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Don served as Past President of the Masonic Order; was an officer of all the York Rite bodies; an active member of the Shrine Club (Past President); Past President and Honorary Life Member of the Fredericton Golden Club; a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4; a member of the Garrison Club; a member of the Fredericton Rotary Club and was a lifelong Liberal. In his younger years he was active in several sports playing hockey, softball, and volleyball and serving as a referee and national level boxing judge. Don was an avid bridge player. The family of Donald Fisher would like to acknowledge the many kindnesses and best wishes of both their and their dad's friends and acquaintances. A special thank you to Dr. Brian MacKinnon, the wonderful staff of Windsor Court, and the caring nurses and support staff at the DECH. Donald Fisher will be greatly missed. He was above all else a family man and a gentleman and according to a friend, "a man apart". He has rejoined his beloved Amy. Rest well. The family will receive visitors at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton (458-9170) on Monday, September 8th, 2008 from 6 to 9 PM. The funeral service will take place at the Christ Church (Parish) Church, Westmorland Street, Fredericton, on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 at 2:00 PM with The Ven. John Sharpe officiating, assisted by The Rev. Anthony Kwaw. A reception will take place in the church immediately following the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Gerald Clowater, Andrew Clowater, Christopher Tubb, Gregory Tubb, Blair Sullivan and Joe Foley; Honorary Pallbearer will be Frank Logue. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 will hold a tribute service at the funeral home on Monday at 5:45 PM. A private family burial will take place at a later date. For those who wish, and in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, the Salvation Army, The Christ Church (Parish) Church or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. www.mcadamsfh.com
