Black Watch & RCR Friends:

Regret to report that Mel Ellis passed away today in Oromocto, NB.

Mel served with 2nd Battalion, The Black Watch throughout the 1960s in Gagetown, Germany and Cyprus (1966 and 1969/70), most of these years with the battalion’s Signals Platoon.
In 1970 he re-badged to 2RCR with whom he served until his retirement.
Following retirement from the CAF, Mel was very active with The Black Watch Association in the Maritimes.
Mel was a much respected member of the Canadian Army.
Please note: visitation Sunday afternoon and memorial service Monday afternoon.

It is with great sorrow that the family of Arthur ‘Melvin’ Ellis announce his passing on December 7, 2016 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Melvin was born February 27, 1939 in East Bideford, P.E.I. He was the son of the late Luther and Susan (Adams) Ellis

Melvin was a proud member of the Military, first serving with the Black Watch from 1957 to 1970, transferring to 2 RCR from 1970 to 1989; retiring as a Warrant Officer. Upon retiring from the Military, he continued his career with the Department of Transportation from 1989 to 2000. He was also a former president of International Repeater Group.

During his years of retirement, Melvin was still active in Amateur Radio, he was known as VE9KK. He was also an active square dancer with the Oromocto Pioneer Square Dance Club, serving as a former President. Melvin was also very involved in Sunbury Senior Club. Melvin was the Superintendent/Treasurer of Sunbury Manor. In many years he was the person to go to when anything was needed and help everyone as much as he could. Melvin was a loving, kind, generous husband and family man.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Ida (Phillips) Ellis; Son, Graeme (Kathy) Ellis; daughters, Darlene (Dean) Squires, Carolyn (George) Ouellet; sisters, Kathleen (Graeme) Linkletter, Elaine (David) Jessop; proud pappie of 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Melvin was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Danny Ellis.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 11th, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at McAdam’s Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 12th at 2:00 pm at J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, St. John’s Anglican Church or Canadian Diabetes Association.
