Black Watch & RCR friends:

Regret to report the passing last month of Red Huse in Oshawa.
Red served with The RCR in Korea and afterwards returned briefly to civilian life before reenlisting in the Army to become a cook with the RCASC. Although he never wore the Government Tartan, Red was posted as a cook to 2nd Battalion RHC in Camp Aldershot circa 1957 and remained with the battalion for the next 12 years including its deployments to Gagetown in 1958, Germany in 1962 and Cyprus in 1966. In addition to his culinary skills, Red was a talented hockey goalie for 2nd Black Watch.

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa at the age of 81.
Loving husband of Joyce of 26 years. Father of Kathy Huse (Keith) and Darryl Huse, stepfather of April (Dave) and Kathy (John). Will be greatly missed by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Red served in the Canadian Military for over 20 years.
Served with distinction in Korea with the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR) followed by a lengthy career with Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in food service, Volunteer Service Medal for Korea, Special Service Medal with NATO Bar, Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal with Korean Bar, United Nations Force in Cyprus, Canadian Decoration, retiring as a warrant officer.
Red was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 637 and was very active in the poppy campaign.
During Red’s retirement years he enjoyed playing golf and volunteering his time cooking at the legion for special occasions and luncheons.
Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Sunday, November 8th, from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 p.m. and on Monday November 9th, from 12:00 noon until time of Service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m.
Donations to the Children’s Wish Foundation would be appreciated.
Online condolences may be made at

With thanks to Bob Woodward for the foregoing.
