Chuck wrote this brief overview of Burt's military service:
"Burt joined the North Shore Regiment on 17 June 1940 and went with them to the UK in July 1941. He returned to Canada a year later as a corporal-instructor and then underwent officer training in 1943. In 1944 he volunteered for the CANLOAN program and was assigned to 1st Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment in North West Europe. He was wounded in January 1945 and spent the next five months in hospital. Burt was discharged from the Army in late 1945 and worked in Campbellton NB until he rejoined for the Korean conflict in October 1949. He served for five years with the PPCLI but transferred to The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada in 1955. He was the last Commanding Officer of The Black Watch Regimental Depot in Gagetown."
