            <description>The only information in my possession regarding J.L.H. Gignac is that he graduated RHC Depot with #130 Squad in September 1962.  No mention of RHC in his obit below.

GIGNAC, Harvey - Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Kingston General Hospital on Saturday, May 5, 2012 in his 70th year. Loving husband of 46 years to Rosemarie. Cherished father of Marion Beeksma (Chris), Peter (Tammy) and David. Proud grandpa of Carmen, Daniel, Adrian, Corina, Tamara, Shane, Abby and Grace. Dear brother of Theresa (Gaston), Ray (Paulette) and Linda (Peter). Harvey is survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son, Harvey (1993). Harvey served thirty-two and a half years with The Royal Canadian Regiment (VRI) and served for five years with the Brockville Rifles. Visitation will be held at James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Boulevard) on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00am. Reception to follow. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to U.H.K.F. (Cancer Centre of S.E. Ontario) in Harvey's memory would be appreciated by the family.</description>

Regret to announce the recent passing of Norman Cole in Belleville, Ontario.
Norman’s name appears in the Regimental Depot’s roll in March 1958 (squad not identified) and he went to Germany with 1RHC in 1959.
No knowledge of his career post-1970: can anyone help?
 
 
COLE, Norman Lester - Entered into rest suddenly on Friday, April 13th, 2012. Norman Cole, of Belleville, at the age of 71. Beloved husband of Mechthild “Mec“ Cole. Loving father of Martina Adams of Manitoba and Linda Cole of Oakville. Predeceased by his parents Norman and Vera Cole. Survived by his many siblings; Walter, Carman, Keith, Tom, Dan, Edith Crooks, Carrie Kelly and Joe Cole. Devoted Opa of Bradley &amp; Tanya Adams and Erika &amp; Karis Cole. He will be ever remembered by his many nieces, nephews and friends. He began his military career in the Blackwatch at the age of 17, and retired after serving 30 years in the Canadian Services as a Peacekeeper. After retiring, Norman loved the interaction with the community during his time as a crossing guard, and will be sadly missed. Funeral Service will be held at the BELLEVILLE FUNERAL HOME &amp; CHAPEL 68 N. Front St. Belleville (613- 968-5080) on Wednesday, April 18th, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. (with visitation two hours prior from 12:00-2:00p.m.). Cremation to follow. D.S. is a legend and his career is accurately described in the obit below as published in today’s Ottawa Citizen.

Brigadier-General (Retired)
On Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Laura (Beland). Loving father of Anne Joynt (Tony Going) and Barry MacLennan (Ann Molloy). Grandfather of David and Peter Joynt, and Tory Feyko and Julie MacLennan. Adored brother of Dorothy Ralfs (Jack), Norma MacDowall (Fergus) and the late Nina Jones (Jack). He is survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A life-long soldier from the outbreak of WWII. Participated in the invasion of Sicily and the fighting to liberate Italy. Volunteered for duty with United States forces in the Pacific theatre. Awarded U.S. Bronze Star for contribution to liberation of islands in the Sulu Archipelago. Tour of duty in Korean War. Liaison officer in London, England in 1954. Brigade-Major of the Canadian Infantry Brigade Group in Soest Germany. 2IC then Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion, The Black Watch (RHC) based at Camp Aldershot, NS and Werl, Germany (1958-60). Directing Staff member at Canadian Army Staff College, Kingston (1960-62), and at British Army Staff College, Camberley, Surrey, England (1962-64). Director, Land Forces Operational Requirements (Land) (DLFORL) in Ottawa (1964-67). Military Advisor to the Canadian Delegation, International Commission for Control and Supervision, Vientiane, Laos (1967-68). Promoted to Brigadier-General and appointed Commandant, Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College, Kingston (1969). A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
